Dyestuff
BVO NIR DS2 is Bolder Vision Optik's highest contrast NIR linear polarizer. The dyestuff construction is optimized for the NIR band from 525 nm to 1065 nm, delivering an average contrast ratio of 30,629:1 across the 800–1000 nm NIR band — with peak contrast exceeding 45,000:1 at select NIR wavelengths. This makes NIR DS2 the product of choice for applications requiring maximum polarization extinction in the NIR: machine vision plastics sorting, recycling inspection, ultra-contrast NIR cameras, and demanding polarimetry instrumentation.
Note on visible range: NIR DS2 is optimized for the NIR band. Tc is elevated at 400–500 nm (visible contrast ~6,000:1) as the dyestuff system is tuned for maximum NIR performance. For broadband VIS+NIR applications requiring high contrast across both bands, see
BVO NIR Ultra.

Performance
NIR DS2 is engineered for maximum contrast in the NIR band. Tc drops sharply from 500 nm as the dyestuff system engages, falling below 0.01% from approximately 560 nm and reaching a minimum of 0.001% in the 850–950 nm window — the lowest dark-state transmission in the BVO NIR polarizer family.
Single-pass transmission (Tp) rises steadily from 400 nm to a broad peak of approximately 65% at 720–750 nm, then gradually increases again above 1000 nm reaching 80% at 1100 nm. The trade-off is elevated Tc at 400–500 nm — the dyestuff is optimized for NIR rather than visible extinction.

Applications
Plastics Sorting & Recycling
NIR spectral signatures for plastics identification require maximum polarization extinction. DS2's >45,000:1 peak contrast eliminates stray light that masks material signatures.
Machine Vision NIR Imaging
Ultra-high contrast NIR polarization for defect detection, sorting lines, and industrial inspection where stray polarized light degrades image quality.
NIR Camera Polarization
Highest contrast NIR polarizer for scientific and industrial NIR cameras requiring maximum extinction ratios in the 700–1065 nm band.
Broadband NIR Polarimetry
Ultra-contrast polarimetry instrumentation measuring polarization states in the NIR. DS2 + AQWP6 waveplate provides a complete NIR polarimetry component set.
Food & Agriculture NIR Inspection
NIR polarized imaging for food quality, moisture content, bruise detection, and agricultural sorting systems operating in the 700–1000 nm NIR band.
Semiconductor NIR Inspection
High contrast NIR polarization for silicon wafer inspection and semiconductor process control in the NIR transparency window.
