BVO IR is the broadband NIR/IR absorptive linear polarizer covering 700 nm to 1,700 nm — the widest true NIR coverage available in the BVO line. The NIR bandwidth reveals unique physics where polarization can increase contrast, reduce glare, select emitted polarized states, and attenuate NIR light. BVO IR handles all of it in one utilitarian polarizer. NIR imaging capable, available in glass components with BBAR coatings optimized for 700–1100 nm or 900–1700 nm. Direct replacement for the discontinued 3M HR polarizer.

BVO IR Linear Polarizer — Transmission Performance
Input Light: Plane Polarized | Active Range: 700–1700 nm | Tp calculated from measured data; Tc = Tp / Contrast Ratio
Key Features
- Broadest true NIR/IR coverage — 700 nm to 1,700 nm in a single absorptive element
- NIR imaging capable — suitable for cameras and microscopy applications
- Absorptive, non-reflective — no back-reflection artifacts
- 3,000:1 nominal contrast across NIR band
- Covers partial SWIR band extending into 1700 nm
- BBAR anti-reflection coated BK-7 glass components — 700–1100 nm or 900–1700 nm
- PSA conversion available for direct lamination
- Dark green color — visible absorption makes it easy to identify in assembly
- Replaces discontinued 3M HR polarizer — drop-in replacement
- Custom geometry — .dxf routing or laser cutting to 10–25 micron tolerances
- All NIR low-power lasing sources covered across 700–1700 nm
Performance
BVO IR delivers increasing single-pass transmission (Tp) from approximately 16% at 600 nm rising steeply through 700 nm to plateau at 65–69% across the 900–1700 nm NIR band. Contrast ratio is strong throughout — 3,000:1 to 8,000:1 across the active range — with the best performance in the 1000–1400 nm window.
Note on size: BVO IR film is produced in a maximum format of 60 mm × 55 mm — a smaller format than other BVO polarizers. For larger NIR panel applications requiring larger format, see BVO NIR Ultra or NIR HD (400–1000 nm). For SWIR coverage to 2100 nm at larger formats, see BVO SWIR.
